Cranial Osteopathy/Craniosacral Therapy
Cranial Osteopathy by Barney Flannery
Cranial Osteopathy was developed in the 1930s by William Garner Sutherland whilst Craniosacral Therapy was further expanded by John Upledger in 80/90s. They are both based on the same principals.
Craniosacral therapy is a light touch, hands-on therapy that enhances the body’s natural capacity for healing. Working primarily with the CNS (Central Nervous System) which is made up of the brain, spinal cord & cerebral spinal fluid. During treatment the CNS is accessed through the membranes and fluids that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Imbalances, or tension, in those membranes or fluids can directly affect the CNS and cause any number of sensory, motor or neurological disabilities. Craniosacral therapy helps correct those imbalances and restricted fluid flows allowing for all round better healing and health.
